General Motors' Cruise self-driving vehicle unit will redeploy cars on U.S. roadways for the first time since October, beginning with a small fleet of human-driven vehicles in Phoenix, the company said Tuesday. Cruise said its "goal is to resume driverless operations," however it did not provide a timeline for doing so. The probe also investigated allegations of a coverup by Cruise leadership, but did not find any evidence to support those claims. Prior to the accident, Cruise was planning an aggressive expansion of robotaxis outside its home market, where the majority of its vehicles operated. CNN —A New York City man accused of fatally beating a 66-year-old Sikh man following a car collision nearly two weeks ago was arraigned Tuesday on a slew of charges, including hate crimes, prosecutors said. Singh suffered a brain injury and was taken to a hospital, where he died the next day, the news release reads. Jasmer Singh, a 66-year-old Sikh man, died on October 20 after sustaining a brain jury, prosecutors say. During a verbal argument that followed, Augustin became angry with Singh and referred to him several times as “turban man,” prosecutors said, citing the witness.

New York CNN —General Motors announced Thursday that it is putting the brakes on its driverless cars, halting a service that provides driverless rides in multiple cities. The move comes days after California revoked GM’s permits to test and operate fully driverless vehicles on the state’s roads. GM said the driverless vehicles are safer than human-driven cars. But there have been numerous problems with the vehicles’ operations. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has announced it has launched an investigation into the safety of its driverless vehicles around pedestrians.
